G IS FOR GOLD

A way to teach letter sounds is through crafting. Or maybe it's just an excuse for me to glue, cut, paint with my students. Whatever the case may be, art is an enjoyable method to teach letter knowledge. For this particular project, students brainstormed words that began with that letter (we came up with G is for GOLD), then decorated the letter G.

1. Cut out the letter G. I made sure to cut out the outline because the outcome looks a lot cleaner. (Trust me, we had to do this activity twice.)

2. Add a generous serving of glue.

3. Sprinkle GLITTER!!! Kids love this step and GLITTER. We call it a glitter party at school because it ends up getting on the floor, in their hair, on their desks, everywhere!

TA DA! A Golden G. This activity is perfect for any letter and ties in nicely with phonemic awareness when you brainstorm objects or things that begin with that letter.

It's a win win!
