We made one more famous art-inspired masterpiece from one of the artists featured in Marion Deuchars' book, Bob the Artist. Presenting ... Piet Mondrian.
MATERIALS: Black construction cut into skinny strips, white cardstock, glue, paint, and brush.
STEPS: 1. Arrange the black strips into a grid on the white cardstock. 2. Glue.
3. PAINT TIME!
We used primary colors to paint our pieces to remain true to the De Stijil philosophy of "pure abstraction and a pairing down palette in order to express a utopian ideal of universal harmony in all of the arts. By using basic forms and colors, Mondrian believed that his vision of modern art would transcend divisions in culture and become a new common language based in the pure primary colors, flatness of forms, and dynamic tension in his canvases."
VOILA. Impressive Piet Mondrian works of art. If you're interested in learning more about this fascinating, artist and his philosophy behind advocating the De Stijil movement, click here.
