Learning about the moon’s phases is complex. Although some of the information went over some of my kindergartener’s heads, this activity made it more concrete and understandable for some.

First download and print this free printable. I also used the following chart for reference:

DIRECTIONS: Talk about the phases of the moon. This video helps. It’s a little repetitive, but there’s a song and visual representation for teaching phases. After direct teaching, have students cut out the four phases. (Because I teach lower level elementary students, I thought four were enough instead of eight.) Then have them label it.

Using the second worksheet, have them cut out the phases, then glue them down onto black paper. Finally, with a white crayon, have them write the phases under the corresponding one. Very simple yet effective. Happy Moon Learning!
