FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
Today marks the first day of the 2017-2018 school year. Only 179 days to go. This year's decor theme is Bloom Where You are Planted. So to celebrate our first day of school and floral theme, we worked on three activities: a flower masterpiece, photo sesh, and gardening time. Here's what we did:
Our first activity was illustrating a poster with flowers. I coached my K-2 students to utilize shapes and lines to create flowers. Then we grabbed black Sharpies and traced the outlines. And finally, we used watercolors to complete our floral masterpieces. If you'd like to create your very own masterpiece, I included a free PDF. Just click here.
Our next activity was planting flower seeds in a pot. This was to illustrate the idea that learning is daily dedication just like taking care of a plant. (Honestly, this metaphor went over their heads because a student exclaimed, "So does this mean a plant is going to grow out of my head?!?). Maybe one more year for critical thinking?
Since our last activity was a photo sesh, I made these posters for them to hold up, commemorating our beginnings. I laminated them for durability (because let's face it, paper goods do NOT last longer than 59 minutes when it comes to 5 to 7-year-olds). And now, you can these posters ... FOR FREE. Just click here.
Well, I'm beat even though I took an hour nap on my sofa immediately after scarfing down an In-n-Out Burger. That's the life of a teacher. And I can't wait to do it again tomorrow.
Signing off, Christine.
