NUMBER RECOGNITION

Number recognition is something that my students need a little bit attention. After reading an excellent counting book (we LOVE this counting book) we worked on this fun activity which focuses on many skills TK (transitional kindergarten) and kindergarten students need.

MATERIALS: straws, scissors, white cups, and number stickers

STEP ONE: Cut straws into little strips. My son had the honors of snipping away so that he could work on his cutting / fine motor skills.

STEP TWO: Another excellent motor skill is to stick the number stickers onto the cup, beginning with zero. Why is it excellent? First she has to peel the sticker off then apply it. :)

Try to keep it straight and in the middle of the cup!

STEP THREE: Line up the cups in numerical order.

STEP FOUR: Have your child count out how many straws each cup needs to hold. For example, cup 5 needs five straws.

This activity helps strengthening hand muscles. ENJOY!
